Correction of Sentences / Error Finding English Language Questions withExplanation for IBPS Bank Exams 2013

I have prepared some Gendderal English Language material for upcoming IBPS Bank exams 2013 - 14 and all other competitive exams like SSC. This material is collected from various sources (not copied from other websites) and posting the useful material for our readers. I am starting with Correction of sentences, usually we call it as error finding in bank exams.

Directions (Q.1-7): Read each sentence to find out whether there is any error in it. The error, if any, will be in one part of the sentence. The number of that part is the sentence. The number of that part is the answer. If there is no error, the answer is 5.

1. She suddenly blurted (1)/ on the secret (2)/ she did not (3)/ want to reveal (4)/ No error (5)

Ans. 2 [Replace ‘on’ with ‘out’. Blurt out means “to say something because of fear’]

2. He adjusted the brake (1)/ to stop the car (2)/ when he saw a pit (3)/ in the middle of the road (4)/ No error (5)

Ans. 1 [Replace ‘adjusted’ with ‘applied’]

3.I walked down (1)/the gangway of the (2)/ theater to reach my (3)/ seat if the front row (4)/. No error(5)

Ans. 4 [Replace ‘of’ with ‘in’. Seat in the front row]

4. Kalidas was a genius who (1)/ wrote Abhignana Shakuntalam (2)/ one of the greatest (3)/ play of the world (4)/. No error (5)

Ans. 4 [Replace ‘play’ with ‘plays’]

5. Five-star hotels (1)/ are very comfortable (2)/ but I can not afford (3) the charges (4)/. No error (5)

Ans. 5

6. The teacher shouted (1)/ to clam the (2)/ hullabaloo of (3)/ the class room (4)/. No error (5).

Ans.3 [Replace ‘of’ with ’in’. Hullabaloo means ‘noisy talk’]

7. Former president of India (1)/ Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma gifted (2)/ his enormous collections of books (3)/ to the Bhopal Library. (4)/ No error (5).

Ans.3 [Replace ‘collections’ with ‘collection’ means large collection]

Discuss the reason for error in the below questions. I will post explanations after 2 days. This is just for practice purpose.

8. The crew were (1)/ on board and they (2)/ soon busied themselves (3)/ in preparing to meet the storm. (4)/ No error. (5)

    First of all ur doing very great job and its very useful for us but try to explain the answers clearly below the question it might b understand every student very easily and i have some doubts on above question.

    Here its

    Can you explain the 8th, 13th and 14th Question ans with clear explanation.
