In this post i am going to explain how to file or apply RTI to a Bank or any other Organisation to seek information. This is really simple process.
The RTI Act prescribes a very simple procedure for obtaining information. It requires :
Step 1: Writing an application to a bank or any other organisation, specifying the particulars of the information sought. The application may be typed or neatly hand-written. Actually there is no specific format for the application. Indian bank has put up one proforma to file RTI. But there is no compulsion under the law to stick to such proforma. The application should be in English, Hindi or the official language of the area. As the bankers are posted out of state, some PIO's may have difficulty or they don't even know the local language. So it is preferable to write in English or Hindi. It is not required to submit the reasons for seeking information.
Step 2: You are required to pay two types of fee.
a. An application fee is to be paid failing which the application may not be considered as an RTI application. The cost of application fee is Rs.10/- by demand draft or banker’s cheque or Indian Postal Order payable to the Accounts Officer of the public authority.
b. The cost of providing the information is calculated and informed by the PIO to the applicant. It is often called as the further fee.
If an evidence of payment of the ‘application fee’ is not found to be attached with the application, the PIO may reject the application as not a valid application under the RTI Act. Therefore, the application fee has to be paid in advance.
No fee is chargeable under the RTI Act if the person seeking information fall under below poverty line (BPL). You have to attach a certificate of below poverty line (BPL).
Step 3: Sending the application to the concerned Public Information Officer /Assistant Public Information Officer.
